About Us - Bank History
Now in its 111th year of business, Hometown Bank has changed and
grown with the community. It opened in Kent in 1898 as a state-chartered
building and loan association called Home Building and Loan Company.
Early services were limited to financing area homes. After many years as
a successful building and loan, the company changed its name in 1953 to
Home Savings and Loan Association, having taken on more in the way of
services to savers and borrowers. In 1988, the name became Home Savings
Bank to better reflect the broad range of services offered to customers,
including an emphasis on mortgage lending plus consumer and commercial
loans, checking accounts, Certificates of Deposit and Individual
Retirement Accounts. In 1994, the Bank converted to a state chartered
savings bank.
Despite the growth, the company has been able to maintain its personal
touch with a solid commitment to its communities with a unique brand of
friendly personal service.
Hometown Bank belongs to the Kent, Ravenna, and Brimfield Area
Chamber of Commerce, American Bankers Association, Independent Community
Bankers of America and the Ohio Bankers League.
